Ukiha [town] - Ukiha

Japanese: 浮羽[町] - うきは

An old town in Ukiha District, southeastern Fukuoka Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, with the northern part being rice paddy fields on the south bank of the Chikugo River and the alluvial fan covered with pear and grape orchards. The town's centre is Senzoku, a Taniguchi settlement that developed as a market town. The Kyudai Main Line runs through the town, and lumber and sake brewing are thriving industries. It is home to Tsukahanazuka Tomb and Kusuna Shigesada Tomb (both historic sites). In March 2005, it merged with Yoshii Town, Ukiha District, to become a city, Ukiha City. ^{89.26 km2} . 福岡県南東部，浮羽郡の旧町。大部分は山地，北部は筑後川南岸の水田地帯，扇状地はナシ，ブドウの果樹園が広がる。中心は市場町として発達した谷口集落の千足(せんぞく)で，久大本線が通じ，製材，酒造が盛ん。塚花塚古墳，楠名重定古墳（ともに史跡）がある。2005年３月浮羽郡吉井町と合併し市制，うきは市となる。89.26km²。１万6996人（2003）。
