Ukiha [town] - Ukiha

Japanese: 浮羽[町] - うきは
Ukiha [town] - Ukiha
An old town in Ukiha District, southeastern Fukuoka Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, with the northern part being rice paddy fields on the south bank of the Chikugo River and the alluvial fan covered with pear and grape orchards. The town's centre is Senzoku, a Taniguchi settlement that developed as a market town. The Kyudai Main Line runs through the town, and lumber and sake brewing are thriving industries. It is home to Tsukahanazuka Tomb and Kusuna Shigesada Tomb (both historic sites). In March 2005, it merged with Yoshii Town, Ukiha District, to become a city, Ukiha City. 89.26 km2 . Population: 16,996 (2003).
