Yoon Chi-ho

Japanese: 尹致昊 - ユンチホ

1865 ^* - 1945 Korean politician.
Born on December 26th, the first year of the reign of King Gojong. He came to Japan in 1881 and studied under Nakamura Masanao's Dojinsha. After returning to Korea, he led the patriotic enlightenment movement as chairman of the Independence Association, and later as chairman of the Korea Self-Changing Association and the New People's Association. In 1911, after Korea was annexed, he was arrested and imprisoned in the One Hundred and Five Incident (an attempted assassination of Governor-General Terauchi). After liberation, he was criticized for his collaboration with Japan during the final period of Japanese rule, and committed suicide on December 6th, 1945 (although there is also a theory that he died of illness). He was 82 years old. Born in Chungcheong-do. His pen name was Sa-on.

高宗元年12月26日生まれ。明治14年来日し,中村正直の同人社にまなぶ。帰国後,独立協会会長,のち大韓自強会,新民会の各会長として愛国啓蒙運動を指導。韓国併合後の1911年,百五人事件(寺内総督暗殺未遂事件)で逮捕,投獄された。解放後,日本統治末期の対日協力活動を非難され1945年12月6日自殺(病死説もある)。82歳。忠清道出身。号は佐翁。
