A former town in Yatsuka County, northeastern Shimane Prefecture. It is located almost in the center of the Shimane Peninsula, and its main settlement is Etomo on the Japan Sea coast. Fresh fish peddling by bus and seafood processing are thriving businesses. Sardine trawl fishing can be seen in Mitsu. Rice and tea production are also carried out. The Shimane Nuclear Power Plant was completed in 1974. Koura is a swimming beach. Sada Shrine is located here. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Matsue City along with Shimane Town, Mihonoseki Town, Tamayu Town, Shinji Town, Yatsuka Town, and Yakumo Village in Yatsuka County. 29.04 km2 . 8,403 people (2003).

An old town at the base of the Noto Peninsula in Kashima County, Ishikawa Prefecture. The main settlement, the former Koshiji Town, located northeast of the Ochigata lowlands, developed as a post town on the Nanao East Highway and had a thriving silk and rayon textile industry. It produces rice and other products. Tenpyo-ji Temple, located on Mt. Sekido in the east, once had over 300 monks' quarters and is famous for the battle between the warrior monks and Uesugi Kenshin. In March 2005, it merged with Toriya Town and Rokusai Town in Kashima County to become a town, Nakanoto Town. 47.58 km2 . 9,060 people (2003).

An old town in Soma County, north of Hamadori in northeastern Fukushima Prefecture. Kashima, the center of the town, is an old post station on the Rikuzenhama Kaido highway and runs along the Joban Line. Rice fields open up in the lower reaches of the Mano River, and Karasuzaki at the river's mouth is a fishing village. Pears are a local specialty. In January 2006, it merged with Haramachi City and Odaka Town in Soma County to become a city, Minamisoma City. Area: 108.06 km2 . Population: 12,682 (2003).

An old town facing the Kashima Bay in the southeastern part of Ibaraki Prefecture. In 1995, it merged with Ono Village, changed its name, and became a city, becoming Kashima City.

石川県鹿島郡,能登半島基部にある旧町。邑知(おうち)潟低地帯北東の主集落旧越路町は七尾東街道の宿場町として発達,絹・人絹織物工業が盛ん。米などを産する。東部の石動(せきどう)/(いするぎ)山にあった天平寺はかつて300余の僧坊をもち,僧兵と上杉謙信の戦いで有名。2005年3月鹿島郡鳥屋町,鹿西町と合併し町制,中能登町となる。47.58km2。9060人(2003)。

福島県北東部,浜通り北部の相馬郡の旧町。中心の鹿島は陸前浜街道の旧宿駅で常磐線に沿う。真野川下流域は水田が開け,河口の烏崎(からすざき)は漁村。特産品にナシがある。2006年1月,原町市,相馬郡小高町と合併し市制,南相馬市となる。108.06km2。1万2682人(2003)。
