Máo shān (English spelling)

Japanese: 茅山 - ぼうざん（英語表記）Máo shān

A group of hills jutting out from the plain between Lake Tai and the Yangtze River in southwestern Jiangsu Province, China. Da Maofeng (330m) and Xiji Mountain (410m) are lined up from north to south, and the southern part is connected to the Tianmu Mountains. The mountain is called Ququ Mountain or Snake Mountain because of its shape that winds like the character for snake, and the county to the northwest of the mountain is called Quyong. It has many ancient legends, and it is said that the First Emperor of Qin stopped here on his way back from climbing Mount Kuaiji. In addition, during the Han dynasty, Mao Ying and his two younger brothers learned Taoism here and became immortals, so it is also called Mao Mountain or Sanmao Mountain.

中国，江蘇省南西部，太湖と長江(揚子江)の間の平地に突出する丘陵群。大茅峰(330m)，丫髻山（あけいざん）(410m)などが南北に並び，南は天目山脈につらなる。巳（し）の字のようにくねくねとつらなる山容から句曲山（こうきよくさん），また巳山と呼ばれ，山の北西の県を句容（こうよう）という。古くからの伝承を多くもち，秦の始皇帝が会稽山に登った帰りにここに立ち寄ったという。また漢代に茅盈（ぼうえい）とその2人の弟がここで道術を得て仙人となったので，茅山，三茅山とも呼ばれる。
