In the 13th year of the Tenpyo Era, he was appointed as the head of the San'i no Kami. In the 17th year, when Emperor Shomu was ill, Tachibana Naramaro is said to have worked out a plan with the Otomo and Saeki clans to have Obun no O placed on the throne and ensure stability for the people. In July of Tenpyo Hoji 1 (757), the plan was leaked to the government led by Fujiwara no Nakamaro, and Naramaro and others were interrogated in prison. His brother Yasuyado no O confessed that he had heard about Naramaro's plan from Obun no O and had joined the conspiracy, so Obun no O was renamed (Kuna) Tafurei and tortured to death.
