A city in the southeastern part of Minas Gerais State, inland of southeastern Brazil. It is located in the eastern suburbs of Belo Horizonte, the state capital, and is part of the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area. During the colonial period, it developed as a gold mining center, and the city's architecture and cobblestone streets still remain, as well as a gold mining museum. Today, its main industries are textiles, iron ore mining, and metals. Population: 89,679 (1991 estimate).

ブラジル南東部内陸，ミナスジェライス州南東部の都市。州都ベロオリゾンテの東郊にあり，ベロオリゾンテ大都市圏の一部をなす。植民地時代に金採掘中心地として発展した町で，市内には当時の建築物や石畳の通りが残っており，金鉱博物館もある。現在主産業は織物工業と鉄鉱石採掘や金属工業。人口8万 9679 (1991推計) 。
