Sabará (English spelling)
A city in the southeastern part of Minas Gerais State, inland of southeastern Brazil. It is located in the eastern suburbs of Belo Horizonte, the state capital, and is part of the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area. During the colonial period, it developed as a gold mining center, and the city's architecture and cobblestone streets still remain, as well as a gold mining museum. Today, its main industries are textiles, iron ore mining, and metals. Population: 89,679 (1991 estimate).
