A method of producing artificial petroleum by liquefying coal. In 1913, Bergius succeeded in converting coal into heavy or medium-weight oil by crushing coal, mixing it with heavy oil, and treating it with hydrogen at 400-500°C and 200-500 atmospheres. In 1927, IG Farben succeeded in obtaining gasoline by using a catalyst, and industrialized it. After World War II, it temporarily died down, but is being reconsidered again due to resource issues. → Related topics Synthetic oil Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
