The Belgian Revolution, inspired by the July Revolution in France, broke out in August 1830, and the subsequent war between the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Great Britain. As a result of the Congress of Vienna (1814-15), Belgium was separated from France and incorporated into the Kingdom of the Netherlands with William I as king, against the will of the people. The bourgeoisie-liberals were increasingly dissatisfied with the country's undemocratic political system, particularly with regard to discrimination against Belgians and the free trade policy which catered to the interests of Dutch commercial capital and exposed Belgian industrial capital to British competition.
