A stipend. Originally it was used to mean a land gift given as a reward for service, but in church law it meant a certain amount of income given in return for performing certain duties and conditions of the clergy. It became widespread after the 11th century, and many people began to receive double or triple stipends. Since 1059, the Ecumenical Council has repeatedly banned it in 1179, 1215, and 1274, but the practice has not been reformed. In the 15th century, there were cases where a single person received dozens or even hundreds of stipends, which caused poverty for lower-ranking clergy.

聖職禄のこと。元来は奉仕に対する報酬として与えられる土地贈与の意に用いられたが，教会法では一定の義務や条件を定めた聖職を履行した場合に報いられる一定の収入を意味した。11世紀以後広く普及し，それとともに聖職禄を二重，三重に取得する者が多くなり，公会議は1059年以来，1179年，1215年，74年とたびたびそれを禁じたが改まらず，15世紀には数十，数百の聖職禄を一人で占めるものがあり，下級聖職者の困窮の原因ともなった。
