Beganna (English spelling) [Amhara]

Japanese: ベガンナ（英語表記）beganna[アムハラ]

A type of traditional Ethiopian stringed instrument (illustration). It is a large lyre with 8 to 10 strings, strummed with the right hand. Two arms extend upward from the leather-covered sounding body (approximately 38 cm long, 37 cm wide, and 23 cm thick), with a crossbar about 50 cm long at the end of each arm. The strings are stretched upward from a bridge attached to the bottom front of the sounding body, and tuned by tying them to the crossbar. The total length (height) is about 120 cm. Because of its size, it is usually placed on the floor when played.

エチオピアの伝統的な弦楽器の一種（イラスト）。8～10弦の大型リラで，右手でかき鳴らされる。革張りの共鳴胴(縦約38cm，横約37cm，厚さ23cmくらい)から2本の腕木が上方に開いて突き出ており，その先端に約50cmの長さの横木を渡す。共鳴胴の前面下端に取り付けた緒止（おどめ）(駒)から弦を上方に張り渡し横木に縛り付けて調律する。全長(高さ)は約120cmに達する。大きいので演奏の際は通常床に据える。
