Japanese: 日置[町] - へき

An old town in Otsu County facing the Sea of Japan in northwest Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is the site of Hioki-sho in the Middle Ages. The central settlement, Furuichi, flourished as a post station and market town on the Akamagaseki Highway. The Sanin Main Line runs through the town. It has long developed as a producer of high-quality Otsu rice, and watermelons, melons, strawberries, and other crops are also grown here. The coastal area is part of the Kita-Nagato Coast Quasi-National Park, and Kiwado on the Fukagawa Bay side is a fishing village. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Nagato City along with Misumi Town and Yuya Town in Otsu County. ^{44.81 km2} . 4,606 people (2003).

山口県北西部，日本海に面する大津郡の旧町。中世の日置荘の地。中心集落の古市(ふるいち)は赤間関(あかまがせき)街道の宿駅，市場町として栄えた。山陰本線が通じる。古くから良質の大津米の産地として発展し，スイカ・メロン・イチゴなども栽培。海岸部は北長門海岸国定公園に属し，深川(ふかわ)湾側の黄波戸(きわど)は漁村。2005年３月大津郡三隅町，油谷町と長門市へ編入。44.81km²。4606人（2003）。
