1067‐1148 An early Icelandic historian. Nicknamed "The Scholar." He was from a distinguished family and was educated as a clergyman. His surviving work is the small booklet Íslendingabók (The Book of the Icelanders) (written before 1133, Latin name Libellus Islandorum), which provides a concise and empirical summary of the history of Iceland from about 870 to 1120 (the colonization of Iceland, the establishment of social structures, the colonization of Greenland, the arrival of Christianity) based on reliable information in a text that is by no means dry.
