A sandy coast stretching about 7 km between Ito and Ainohama at the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula in southern Chiba Prefecture. It is part of Tateyama City. Inland, sand dunes have developed along the shoreline over a width of 2 to 3 km, but they are highly mobile, and in some places the sand covers the hills behind them up to 80 m above sea level. Damage caused by blown sand by prevailing western and southwestern winds is great, so after World War II, sand-control forests and fences were constructed to stabilize the sand dunes. There is a golf course, a prefectural flower center, and other facilities on the coast, and it is part of Minami-Boso Quasi-National Park.
