Japanese field mouse (Apodemus argenteus)

Japanese: ヒメネズミ(姫鼠) - ヒメネズミ（英語表記）Apodemus argenteus

A small, long-tailed field mouse (illustration) endemic to Japan that lives in the forests of Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. A mammal of the Muridae family in the Rodentia order. It resembles the Japanese field mouse, but has a slim, slender body, small front and back legs, and a beautiful chestnut color on the back and white underside. It is 7.5-10 cm long, 7.5-11 cm long, and weighs around 15 g. It prefers to live in the dark forests of the dense forest floor, from the plains to the high mountains, and has a fairly large population of 20-30 individuals per hectare. It also lives in alpine pumila forests.
