…In the “Samguk Yusa” (Memorial Records of the Three Kingdoms), compiled during the Goryeo period, Tangun Wanggeom is not considered the founding king of any dynasty, but is instead treated as the founding deity and ancestor deity of the entire Korean continent. The gist of this myth is that Hwanung, the son of Taishak Hwanin, married Kumnyeo, and Tangun Wanggeom was born. Tangun founded the country in the 50th year of Emperor Yao’s reign (there are many different theories), and made Pyongyang Castle his capital, but later moved it to Asadal, where he ruled Korea for 1,500 years. …
