Breeding by separation

Breeding by separation
A method of selective breeding. Cultivated crops and native livestock varieties are a mixture of individuals with slightly different genetic qualities, forming a heterogeneous population. This breeding method creates new varieties by selecting homogeneous individuals (groups) with specific desirable genetic qualities from such populations, or conversely, by removing inferior genetic qualities. This breeding method has been used longer than other breeding methods and has achieved great results, but its scientific basis was provided by WL Johansen's pure line theory (1903).
