Bunka Shureishu - Bunka Shureishu

Japanese:
Bunka Shureishu - Bunka Shureishu

This is an imperially commissioned anthology of Chinese poetry and prose from the early Heian period. It was compiled and compiled in 818 (Kōnin 9) by King Nakao, Sugawara no Kiyokimi, Isayama no Fumitsugu, and Shigeno no Sadanushi. It uses a novel method of classifying the poems into 11 sections: pleasure trips, banquets, farewell gifts, gifts, historical poems, reminiscences, erotic sentiments, music, Buddhist poetry, sorrows, and miscellaneous poems. As it is an imperial anthology, it contains many poems that were submitted to the Emperor (poems submitted at the Emperor's command) or to the Emperor's will (poems submitted to the Emperor with rhymes), and there is a large proportion of seven-line poems (47 five-line poems and 96 seven-line poems), as well as long poems similar to fu. It includes 26 poets and 148 poems (though only 143 exist). Many of the poems included in the collection include Emperor Saga with 34 poems, Kose no Shikihito with 20, and King Nakao with 13, but it is noteworthy that Kayano Toyotoshi, who had 13 poems included in the Ryōunshū, did not have a single poem included in the collection.
