The chemical formula is M ^I ₂ [PdCl ₄ ] (M ^I is a monovalent cation). It is obtained by heating and evaporating a mixed aqueous solution of palladium(II) chloride and metal chloride. It generally appears as a yellow or brown crystal. The sodium salt is easily soluble in water and also in ethyl alcohol. [PdCl ₄ ] ^2- is solvated in polar solvents and forms a 6-coordinate structure. The sodium salt, Na ₂ [PdCl ₄ ], is a brown deliquescent crystal.
