bead reaction

...One of the dry preliminary tests used in qualitative analysis. It is also called a bead reaction. It uses the fact that metal oxides or salts dissolve and color the glass-like beads that are formed by igniting borax Na ₂ B ₄ O ₇ ･10H ₂ O or phosphate salt (sodium ammonium hydrogen phosphate) NaNH ₄ HPO ₄ ･4H ₂ O. The bead test uses borax as the bead, and the phosphate bead test uses phosphate salt.
