Year of death: September 28, 1500 (October 21, 1500) Year of birth: Kakichi 2.5.25 (1442.7.3) An emperor during the Warring States period (reigned 1464-1500). The first son of Emperor Gohanazono. His mother was Fujiwara no Takanaga's daughter Nobuko (Karakumon'in). His given name was Narihito. He was proclaimed prince in December 1457. The following year he came of age. In July 1464, he ascended to the throne after his father abdicated. At the end of the following year, the enthronement ceremony was held. A Daijo-e ceremony was held at the end of Bunsho 1 in 1466, which coincided with the Bunsho Coup, which was set against the backdrop of a dispute over the succession of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, making it the last Daijo-e in the Middle Ages. Shortly after this, Hatakeyama Yoshinari came to Kyoto at the invitation of Yamana Sozen, and the Onin War began. In August 1467, due to the war, Muromachidai became a temporary palace, and in 1479, it was finally moved to the Tsuchimikado Imperial Palace. During this time, in the third year of Bunmei, the Emperor began to rule directly. However, the tyranny of the Minister of the Interior, siblings Hino Katsumitsu and Hino Tomiko, and the seizure of Imperial Estate and Manors abroad meant that the Imperial Family could not do as they wished with even their own property, and the Emperor often declared his abdication due to these misfortunes, which totaled five times. Another important achievement was granting imperial sanction to Yoshida Kanetomo's Shini-mitsuso, helping to ensure the independence of Yuitsu Shinto. He tried to revive the court ceremonies, but financial difficulties made it difficult to do anything about it, and from then on, the Emperor's lifelong reign became the established rule.
