This castle occupies three islands on a lake in Hillerød, Zealand, Denmark, and is currently used as a historical museum. In 1560, Frederick II received the mansion of the nobleman Herluf Trolle from him, remodeled it, and named it after the king. His son Christian IV (reigned 1588-1648) completed the construction of the magnificent castle, built of red brick and decorated with sandstone in the so-called "Christian IV style" of Netherlandish Renaissance.
