Ichinozawa, in the center, was a key point on the route of the Hachinohe Domain's alternate attendance route, which passed through Karumai and Kunohe in Iwate Prefecture and reached the Oshu Kaido. The Kuji Kaido runs through the border with Hashikami Town in the east. Rice cultivation is poor, but tobacco production is the highest in the prefecture, and in recent years shiitake mushroom cultivation has also been thriving. Since 1979, the national Hachinohe Plain Comprehensive Agricultural Land Development Project has been implemented, and the creation of farmland with irrigation facilities and the construction of the Yomasari Dam are underway.
