Greek politician. Born in Crete. Participated in the anti-Turkish War of Independence, and became Minister of Justice of the Cretan Autonomous Government in 1899. Invited to Greece in 1909 as a leader of the constitutional reform movement, he served as Prime Minister five times between 1910 and 1933, participated in World War I, and promoted Greater Hellenicism, including the abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic.
