The second largest oil field in the world, located in southern Kuwait. It was the largest oil field in the world until the Ghawwar oil field in Saudi Arabia was developed. It was discovered in 1938 by Kuwait Petroleum, a joint venture between Gulf Oil and Anglo-Persian Petroleum (→BP). Actual development was delayed due to World War II, and it finally began in earnest in 1945, with commercial production starting in 1946. It is operated by Kuwait Petroleum Development (KOC), the exploration and development division of Kuwait Petroleum (KPC). Crude oil production reached a daily rate of 2.41 million barrels in 1972. However, Kuwait's oil fields, including the Burgan oil field, suffered severe damage during the 1991 Gulf War, and no oil production figures have been released for each field since then.

クウェート南部に位置する世界第2の規模の巨大油田。サウジアラビアのガッワール油田が開発されるまでは世界最大の油田であった。1938年ガルフ・オイルとアングロ・ペルシアン石油（→BP）の合弁会社であるクウェート石油が発見した。実際の開発は第2次世界大戦のため遅れ，1945年ようやく本格化，1946年商業生産が開始された。クウェート国営石油 KPCの探鉱・開発部門であるクウェート国営石油開発 KOCが操業。原油産油量は 1972年に日量 241万バーレルを記録した。しかし，1991年の湾岸戦争によりブルガン油田を含むクウェートの油田は甚大な被害を受け，その後，油田別の産油量は発表されていない。
