Neptunism - Suiseisetsu (English spelling)

Neptunism - Suiseisetsu (English spelling)
Also known as sedimentary theory. The theory that all rocks are formed by precipitation from primordial seawater. It has been advocated since ancient times, and in the 18th century, A. Werner of Germany proposed that granite and basalt were also sedimentary rocks, and is said to be the representative of the sedimentary theory. This theory follows the theory of drastic changes in nature such as natural disasters, and disappeared in the 19th century with the emergence of the igneous theory, which began when J. Hutton of England recognized granite and basalt as igneous rocks at roughly the same time.
