An institution for the production of Buddhist statues and accessories under the Todaiji Construction Office. It developed from the Buddha statue factory of Konkomyo-ji Temple, the predecessor of Todaiji Temple. The staff consisted of two chief priests, the general, the chief priest, etc. Over a thousand craftsmen (miscellaneous workers) were registered, and they also produced Buddha statues for Ishiyama-dera Temple in Omi, Saidai-ji Temple and Toshodai-ji Temple in Nara, etc. It was downsized when the Todaiji Construction Office was abolished in 789.
