Born: November 9, 1915 in Timisoara
[Died] April 11, 2005. A Romanian-born French cartoonist, graphic designer and illustrator from Grizi-les-Prator, near Paris, France. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1935 and further studied under Cassandre. He went to England in 1940, and after returning to Japan in 1945, he attracted attention for his lyrical style of cartoons. He mainly published his work in British and American magazines such as Holiday, Punch and The New Yorker rather than in Japan. His main works include The Crocodile's Tears and The Wandering Island. He was also active in the fields of picture books, posters, advertisements and illustrations.
