Flight ship - Flight ship (English spelling) fluit

Japanese: フライト船 - フライトせん（英語表記）fluit

A new type of ship that was actively built in the Netherlands in the 17th and 18th centuries, it had a high cargo-carrying capacity and could be navigated with a relatively small number of sailors, making a great contribution to the development of Dutch shipping and trade. It is said to have appeared in 1595 based on a design by P.J. Liorne, a shipbuilder from Hoorn, but the background to Liorne's design can be said to have been the desire for larger ships from Dutch merchants and shipowners during the booming period of trade, as well as the accumulation of capital and shipbuilding technology. It had three masts, was four times (later six times) longer than its width, had a rounded, bulging fuselage, a relatively narrow deck area, was fast and stable, and had a large hold.

17～18世紀のオランダで盛んに建造された新型の船舶で，貨物積載能力にすぐれ，比較的少数の水夫で航行可能であったため，オランダの海運，貿易の発展に大きく寄与した。1595年ホールンHoornの造船家リオルネP.J.Liorneの設計により出現したとされるが，貿易の興隆期を迎えたオランダ商人･船主の大型船舶への要望と資本，造船技術の蓄積がリオルネの設計の背景にあったといえる。3本マストで，船幅に比して4倍(のちには6倍)の長さをもち，胴体は丸くふくらみ，デッキの面積は比較的狭く，速力と安定性があり，船倉は広い。
