...In later legends, the twins ascended to the heavens and became the stars of the constellation Gemini, and the light that appeared on the tip of a ship's mast on a stormy night (a discharge phenomenon called St. Elmo's Fire) was believed to be the appearance of the twins, the patron deities of sailors. In Rome, when the Romans fought the Latini at Lake Regillus in 496 BC, it was believed that the twins sided with the Roman army, and during the battle, the dictator Aulus Postumius dedicated a temple to them. This temple was built opposite the Temple of Vesta in the Forum of Rome (three columns still remain), and the twins were highly revered as the patron deities of Roman knights. ...
