Japanese: ゴレンシ - ごれんし

An evergreen tall tree of the Oxalidaceae family cultivated in tropical regions (illustration). It grows to a height of 6-12 m. The leaves are pinnately compound and consist of 7-9 ovate leaflets. It produces short panicles at the ends of branches and along the sides of the trunk, with many small flowers. The flowers are pale pink, have five radially symmetrical petals, and are 5-6 mm in diameter. The fruit is about 10 cm long, oblong, yellow-green, with five wing-like ridges, and a five-pointed star shape in cross section. In China it is called yang tao, and also called goren shi (five-pointed zi) due to the shape of the fruit, or star fruit.

熱帯地方に栽培されるカタバミ科の常緑高木（イラスト）。高さ6～12m。葉は7～9枚の卵形の小葉からなる羽状複葉。枝先や幹のわきに短い円錐花序をつけ，多くの小さな花をつける。花は淡紅色，放射相称に広がる5枚の花弁があり，径5～6mm。果実は5本の翼状の稜をもち，長さ10cmほどの長楕円形で黄緑色，横断面は五角の星形をしている。中国では羊桃といい，また果実の形から五斂子（ごれんし）と呼ばれ，star fruitともいう。
