A person who has died unnaturally, such as from illness or old age, and is suspected of having died as a result of a crime. For example, a body found on the street early in the morning falls into this category. When there is an unnatural death or a body suspected of unnatural death (a body suspected of both unnatural death and criminal death), the public prosecutor must perform an autopsy (see the entry on "autopsy") (Article 229 of the Code of Criminal Procedure). A person who discovers a person who has died unnaturally is not obligated to report it, unless the place is a place that the person occupied. However, he or she is prohibited from arbitrarily changing the scene of the body (Article 1, No. 19 of the Minor Offenses Act) or burying a person who has died unnaturally without an autopsy (Article 192 of the Penal Code.
