Total serialism

...A compositional technique that was widely used in the 1950s as a technique of avant-garde music after World War II. It is also called "total serialism" (French: série intégral, total organized music), and music written using this technique is also called "pointillist music" or "post-Webern style." A single note itself consists of four components: pitch, duration, timbre, and strength.
