Japan-Korea Trade

Trade between Japan and Korea. [Start of Japan-Korea trade] Trade between Japan and the Joseon Dynasty began during the reign of King Taejo (Yi Seong-gye), the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. In 1392, King Taejo succeeded the King of Goryeo as King of Korea, and sent envoys to the Imagawa clan, the Chinzei Tandai (chief of the Imagawa shogunate), the Ouchi clan, the Ashikaga Shogunate, and others, requesting the suppression of the Wako pirates and the establishment of trade relations based on a system of friendly relations.
