Karigane Junichi

Japanese: 雁金準一 - かりがねじゅんいち

1879-1959 A Go player from the Meiji to Showa era.
Born on July 30, 1879. Became a disciple of Honinbo Shuei. After Shuei's death, he competed with Tamura Yasutoshi (Shusai) for the Honinbo title. In 1924, he joined the Nihon Ki-in, but left to form the Kisei-sha. In 1940, he was defeated by Shusai in the inter-institute match. In 1941, he founded the Keiin-sha. He passed away on February 21, 1959, at the age of 79. He was posthumously awarded the honorary rank of 9th dan by the Nihon Ki-in. Born in Tokyo.

明治12年7月30日生まれ。本因坊秀栄に入門。秀栄没後,田村保寿(秀哉)と本因坊をあらそう。大正13年日本棋院に参加するが,脱退して棋正社を結成。15年の院社対抗戦で秀哉に敗れた。昭和16年瓊韻(けいいん)社を創設。昭和34年2月21日死去。79歳。日本棋院から名誉9段を追贈された。東京出身。
