The TUC was established in 1975 as a set of two laws, the Employers and Workers Act and the Conspiracy and Protection of Property Act, which modernized labor-management relations and established the right to strike. In 1900, in order to further strengthen its parliamentary measures, the Labour Representation Committee was established as an independent political organization of the labor movement (renamed the Labour Party in 1906). The TUC played a major role in the establishment and subsequent development of the Labour Party, and continues to wield a strong voice as a major pillar of the party to this day.

…British socialist party. In 1900, the Labour Representation Committee was formed under the leadership of J. K. Hardy and others as a coalition of trade unions and socialist organizations in order to send independent labour representatives to Parliament. This was the direct result of a movement led by the Independent Labour Party to convert unions from liberalism to socialism, but it was also a self-defense measure taken by unions against the offensive and legal sanctions of employers who challenged the new union movement of unskilled workers, and was the product of class struggle.
