Brazza's monkey

Japanese: ブラッザモンキー（英語表記）de Brazza’s monkey

An Old World monkey (illustration) of the Cercopithecidae family of primates. It has a crescent-shaped orange-yellow coat on its forehead, bordered by black at the back. It has long white whiskers around its mouth. It is a medium-sized monkey with a head and body length of 43-60 cm, but is on the larger side among the Cercopithecidae genus. It is found over a wide area from Cameroon to Uganda and western Kenya, living in swamp and riverine forests. It is arboreal but is an excellent swimmer. It is omnivorous, eating insects as well, but has a strong tendency to eat fruit, and is also known to eat soil.

霊長目オナガザル科の旧世界ザル（イラスト）。額の部分に半月状の橙黄色の毛があり，その後部は黒く縁取られている。口のまわりには長く白いひげをもつ。頭胴長43～60cmの中型のサルであるが，オナガザル属の中では大型のほうである。カメルーンからウガンダ，ケニア西部に至る広域に分布し，沼沢林や川辺林に生息，樹上性であるが水泳は巧みである。昆虫なども食べる雑食性だが果実食の傾向が強く，土食いの習性も知られている。
