Guerin of the Pasteur Institute succeeded in discovering BCG, a non-pathogenic virus that could artificially confer immunity to tuberculosis in the human body, and in 1921, Adrien Hallé (1859-1947) of France administered the BCG vaccine to newborns for the first time to prevent tuberculosis. This BCG was brought to Japan by Kiyoshi Shiga in 1890, and research on it began at the beginning of the Showa era, led by Arao Imamura. ...
