Kami-gun, located in the mid-west of Miyagi Prefecture, in the upper reaches of the Naruse River. Known as a horse-breeding area, in recent years it has been involved in dairy farming, rice farming, and field crops. Formerly an important transportation location along the Nakauzen Highway. Yutori Swamp, on the border with the former Miyazaki Town, is a habitat for iron fish (a natural monument).
