Assyrian - Assyrian

A language used in the northwestern part of ancient Mesopotamia. Together with Babylonian in the southeast, it is collectively known as Akkadian. There are few written records before 2000 BC, and the differences with Babylonian are unclear (the language at this stage is called Old Akkadian), but after that, the language is divided into three periods: Old Assyrian (2000-1500 BC), Middle Assyrian (1500-1000 BC), and Neo-Assyrian (1000-600 BC).

古代メソポタミアの北西部で使われた言語。南東部のバビロニア語とともにアッカド語と総称される。紀元前2000年以前は記録資料も少なく、バビロニア語との相違もはっきりしない（この段階のものを古アッカド語と称する）が、それ以後は古アッシリア語（前2000～前1500）、中期アッシリア語（前1500～前1000）、新アッシリア語（前1000～前600）という時代区分がなされている。
