The epitaph of Funao Ogo, an official of the Asuka period. Funa can also be read as "funa." The text dates it to the Boshin Year, which corresponds to 668, making it the oldest epitaph discovered to date. The characters are inscribed on both sides of a forged copper plate. It is said to have been excavated from Matsuokayama in Kokubu, Kashiwara City, Osaka Prefecture, during the Edo period, and has been kept at Sairinji Temple for a long time. The exact location of the epitaph and the circumstances of its burial are completely unknown, but considering the years of death and burial of Ogo, it is thought to be a rare example of an epitaph associated with a burial.
