...Distributed from the Kanto to Chubu regions, Okayama Prefecture, Korea, and Chugoku. S. nipponica Miq. (illustration), which grows in the shade of the mountains in the Kinki and Chugoku regions, has narrow wings on its stems and lacks basal leaves at flowering time. There are five rows of bracts, the outer ones are shorter, and the tips of each are curved outward.
