Bill of Militia

…These fighting groups were called volunteer corps, which were a special case of volunteerism. Volunteers were first recruited under the British Bill of Militia (1757) during the Seven Years' War, to make up for the shortage of militiamen who were forcibly recruited. In addition, there were also mounted volunteers made up of the sons of yeomen, which were integrated into the Territorial Army in 1907-08.
