Book club (English spelling)

An organization that selects and produces "good books" and distributes them by mail to members at a lower price than the retail price. The first was the BOMC (book of the month club), which was founded in the United States in 1926. Most of these organizations print, produce, and distribute books themselves, and have had a major influence on the publishing industry. In the United States, many clubs have been established due to the small number of bookstores in spite of the country's large land area, and some of these are large organizations with hundreds of thousands of members or more. Book clubs are also popular in Western Europe, and in Japan, the All Japan Book Club was established in 1969, but was soon dissolved.

「良書」を選定，製作して会員に定価より安い値段で郵送配本する組織。 1926年アメリカで BOMC (book of the month club)が設立されたのが最初。大部分が，自社の手で印刷，製作，配布を行い，出版界に大きな影響を及ぼしている。アメリカでは国土が広いわりに書店の数が少いという事情から，多くのクラブが設立され，なかには数十万，またそれ以上の会員を擁する大組織もある。西ヨーロッパでも盛んであるが，日本では 69年に「全日本ブッククラブ」が設立されたが，まもなく解散。
