Akiyuri Island

A small island in the Habomai Islands, east of the Nemuro Peninsula in eastern Hokkaido. It has an area of about 5 km2 . The coast is a good fishing ground for kelp, crabs, cod, etc. It belonged to the Habomai Village, but was occupied by the Soviet Union (now the Russian Federation) in 1945. 北海道東部，根室半島東方の歯舞 (はぼまい) 諸島に属する小島。面積約 5km2。沿海はコンブ，カニ，タラなどの好漁場。歯舞村に属していたが，1945年ソ連 (現ロシア連邦) が占領。北方領土に含まれる。
