Whiskey Revolt - Whiskey Revolt

Also known as the Whiskey Rebellion, this was an armed uprising in 1794 in western Pennsylvania, USA, by farmers who made their living from whiskey production, in opposition to the liquor tax that was one of the financial policies of Secretary of the Treasury Hamilton. Hamilton mobilized a large military force to demonstrate the authority of the new government, and personally led the suppression of the riots. ウィスキー反乱ともいう。1794年米国ペンシルベニア州西部でウィスキー製造によって暮らしていた農民が，財務長官ハミルトンの財政政策の一つである酒造税に反対して起こした武装蜂起。ハミルトンは新政府の権威を示すため大兵力を動員，自ら暴動鎮圧を指揮した。
