…関東地方の茨城県虎塚古墳の場合は，靫，盾，鞆（とも），大刀，矛などの器物と，三角形，円文，渦文などの文様との組合せであるが，赤1色を用いた彩画に先立って，壁面に白色粘土の下塗りを行っているのが特色である。なお，とくに1群として分けなかったが，彩画のかわりに線刻画を用いたものがあって，これには熊本県仮又（かりまた）古墳のように，多数の舟の図を重ねて描いたものが多い。　横穴を墓室とするものの場合には，九州地方では熊本県石貫（いしぬき）横穴のように，入口のまわりに同心円や三角形を赤色で描いたものや，熊本県大村横穴のように，外壁に器物や人馬を浮彫にしたものがあって，いずれも多くの類例が群集している。…
