Two-tailed moth - Two-tailed moth

Japanese: フタオガ(双尾蛾) - フタオガ
Two-tailed moth - Two-tailed moth
A general term for insects in the Lepidoptera family, Epiplemidae. This small family is mainly made up of small moths with a wingspan of 1.5 to 3 cm, and is so named because many species have two small projections on the outer edge of their hind wings. They are mainly found in tropical regions, but 18 species are found in Japan. Adults are mainly nocturnal, arriving at lights, although some are active during the day. The larvae are caterpillars that feed on the leaves of trees and shrubs, and some species have their bodies covered in a white waxy substance. There are five pairs of abdominal legs, including the caudal legs. Japan is home to two species that are unusual for this family: the golden moth and the Fujikiobi.
