Futaoi Island

It is an island in the Hibikinada Sea in the southwest of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It belongs to Shimonoseki City, 7 km west of Yoshimo Port, and has an area of 2.35 square kilometers. It is a semi-agricultural, semi-fishing village, and in the early modern period it was the territory of the Chofu Domain, a branch of the Hagi (Choshu) Domain. The coastal waters, where the warm Tsushima Current flows, are good fishing grounds, and fixed net fishing for horse mackerel and yellowtail, and single-line fishing for mackerel and squid are popular.
