Wealth [village] - Tomi

Japanese: 富[村] - とみ

A village in Tomata County in northern Okayama Prefecture. Population 966 (1995). It is located in the mountainous region of the Chugoku Mountains, with the Meki River and Yo River, tributaries of the Asahi River, flowing south. Forestry and Wagyu beef production have long been thriving in the area, but in recent years dairy cow farming has also become popular. There has been a rapid outflow of population, so in 1976 the area was developed into a nature resort village and facilities were constructed as a measure against depopulation. The Morie family home is designated an Important Cultural Property as a typical example of large farmer's architecture in mountain villages from the mid-Edo period. It is a habitat for the Crested Kingfisher.

岡山県北部，苫田（とまた）郡の村。人口966(1995)。中国山地脊梁部の山地にあって，旭川支流の目木川，余川が南流する。古くから林業と和牛生産が盛んな地であるが，近年は乳牛の飼育も盛んになっている。人口流出が激しく，過疎化対策として1976年より自然休養村として整備され，施設が建設された。森江家住宅は江戸時代中期の山村の代表的な大百姓建築として重要文化財に指定されている。カワセミの1種ヤマセミの生息地である。
