Fuse [Village] - Fuse

Japanese: 布施[村] - ふせ

A village in Oki County, located in the northeast of Dogo Island in Oki, Shimane Prefecture. Population 514 (1995). Steep mountains, including Mt. Daimanji (608m), the highest peak on the Oki Islands, approach the coast, and the coastline is full of curves. Three settlements, Iibi, Uzuki, and Fuse, are located on a small flat area at the entrance to the bay. There is very little arable land, and most of the village area is forest. Since ancient times, the village has developed as a pioneer in forestry production, and planned afforestation, processing of forest products, and cultivation of shiitake mushrooms are carried out. With assistance from the Forestry Agency and the prefecture, the village is working on creating "hometown forests."

島根県隠岐の島後（どうご）北東部にある隠岐郡の村。人口514(1995)。隠岐最高峰の大満寺山(608m)をはじめとする急峻な山岳が海岸に迫り，海岸線は屈曲に富む。湾入部の小さな平地に飯美（いいび），卯敷（うずき），布施の3集落が立地する。耕地はきわめて少なく，村域の大部分が山林で，古くから林産の先進地として発展し，計画的な造林，林産物の加工やシイタケ栽培が行われ，林野庁と県の援助による〈ふるさとの森〉づくりに取り組んでいる。
